Computerization in Roofing?

By Curt Liscum

Computerization has made an impact on most of our professional and personal lives. Most people use computers and the myriad of available software for everything from word processing, accounting and drafting, to appointment scheduling. However, how many of us have thought about using computers to assist in the management of roofing assets for our clients?

Roofing software has been available for some time. The first programs were developed to assist specifiers with the tedious mathematical calculations required when understanding a roof system's humidity / vapor drive, or wind up-lift requirements. Programs are now available to assist in the management of multiple roof areas or in the selection of roofing systems.

Computerized Roof Management

Managers responsible for multiple roof areas realize the necessity for information retrieval when making day-to-day decisions about individual roof systems. This information can include:

  • system construction (for repair compatibility)
  • warranty status (for repair responsibility)
  • asbestos content (for environmental regulations)
